What we do
FinWise is a Hong Kong money-tool site: mortgage payments and rate-shock scenarios, salaries tax and the tax-deduction bundle, deposit-protection limits, MPF fee drag — all calculated instantly in your browser. You can read every result yourself; no name, phone number or HKID is needed. Only if you explicitly authorise it is a calculation handed to a licensed advisor for follow-up.
Equally important: we turn already-public market data (FX board rates, time-deposit rates, mortgage benchmarks, fund charges, health-insurance and annuity product terms) into tables you can check, with the source and the date it was checked on every row. There is no opinion inside those tables — you see published figures from official / issuer sources plus a tool that does the maths for you.
What we do not do (stated plainly)
- Not a licensed institution: FinWise is not an SFC licensed corporation, not a licensed insurance intermediary, not an MPFA registered intermediary and not a tax representative. This site does not provide investment, insurance, tax or legal advice.
- We do not sell your inputs: calculations happen on your device; nothing is uploaded or passed on without your consent.
- We do not take money to change rankings: comparison tables sort on the objective field you choose (rate, fee), independent of ad spend; the criteria are published on the algorithm transparency page.
- No naming or ranking while unlicensed: the benchmark page publishes methodology only — no score, ranking or third-party figure is used as a selling point.
- No "typical case" padding: for non-published figures such as rebates and promotional rates we do not substitute a "usually it's like this" number for your actual result — the approval letter or the bank's publication governs.

Where the data comes from
The "Sources and last updated" block at the bottom of every page lists the sources used on that page. The governing rules:
- Official first: figures and registers published by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), the MPFA, the Insurance Authority (IA), the Deposit Protection Board, HKEX and the Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB) come first.
- Issuer publications next: bank board rates, premium tables and fund charges follow the issuer's own published page.
- Aggregators only fill coverage gaps: when nothing is published officially (some virtual-bank offers), a re-published source is used, marked as a re-publication with the date checked. An aggregated figure never overrides an official one.
- Gaps are stated: whatever we cannot cover (institutions without a public rate table, unstated minimum deposits) is written as "not covered / not stated" — never silently treated as zero.
Coverage figures are the platform's own self-disclosed declaration, derived from actual data-file row counts; machine-readable at /data/coverage_registry.json, with fetch times in /data/health.json. They are not market statistics and should not be read as industry size.
Update process and editorial standards
- Market data such as FX board rates and deposit rates is fetched and updated every trading day; each update records a fetch timestamp, and anomalies (a large drop in row count, an unchanged date, a redesigned source) raise an alert instead of shipping quietly.
- "Statutory" numbers — allowances, deduction caps, tax brackets, protection limits, product terms — follow official publications; when an official source changes, we change with it and label the page's update date.
- Editorial standard: assumptions and limits are stated in plain language; phrases such as "guaranteed profit" or "assured return" are not used; every calculation carries a "for reference only" scope.
- Automatically generated figures are gated by tests (coverage, row counts, source traces, internal consistency). If a test fails, the data does not ship — that is our main defence against silent number drift.
Corrections policy
If you find an error in a figure, date, link or description (including "your coverage does not match reality"), email dpo@finwise.hk with the page URL, what you saw and the official source, using the subject "data correction". We will:
- acknowledge within 5 business days (received / investigating / more information needed);
- verify and correct as soon as possible, labelling the affected page with the correction date and what changed;
- if the source itself is wrong, switch to the official or another declared source and update that page's source list.
We do not change figures or rankings for commercial reasons. If a future commercial arrangement affects any page's content, it will be disclosed on that page.
Citing or republishing FinWise
- Citing our pages and figures (media, research, AI assistants) is welcome — please link https://finwise.hk/ and give the citation date.
- When citing coverage figures, keep the wording "platform self-disclosed coverage"; when citing a calculation, keep the meaning "for reference only, not investment / insurance / tax / legal advice".
- Do not present FinWise as a licensed financial institution, bank, insurer or advisory firm.
- Machine-readable summary: /llms.txt; full citable text: /llms-full.txt.

Last updated: 2026-10-14 (Hong Kong time). How every figure is computed and sourced: How we compare, benchmark methodology, algorithm transparency. Third-party aggregators are only used to fill coverage gaps; official / issuer publications always take precedence. Spotted an error? Use the corrections policy — we publish the correction date.
