What FinWise is (and is not)
FinWise is an independent Hong Kong tool site operated by Day Dream Production HK Limited (Hong Kong Business Registration Number 81197323). We compile publicly available market data — mortgage benchmarks, time-deposit rates, FX board rates, fund fees, insurance and annuity product charges — into tables you can audit line by line, and add calculators that use them.
FinWise is not a licensed financial institution: not an SFC licensed corporation, not a licensed insurance intermediary, not an MPFA registered intermediary, not a licensed money lender, not a tax representative. Nothing on this site is investment, insurance, tax or legal advice, and no calculation is a product recommendation.

What data sits behind the numbers
Every tool and comparison page states its own data coverage: which fields, when they were fetched, and where the gaps are. The rules we work to:
- Official sources first: figures and registers published by the Inland Revenue Department, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the MPFA, the Insurance Authority, the Deposit Protection Board, HKEX and the Hong Kong Association of Banks.
- Issuer publications next: bank board rates, premium tables and fund charges come from the issuer's own published pages.
- Third-party aggregators only fill gaps: where nothing public exists (some virtual-bank offers), a re-published source is used and marked as such, with the date it was checked. An aggregated figure never overrides an official one.
- Gaps are stated: anything not covered is labelled as not covered — never silently treated as zero.
Coverage figures are the platform's own self-disclosed data-coverage declaration, derived from actual row counts — machine-readable at /data/coverage_registry.json, with fetch timestamps in /data/health.json. How rankings work
- Comparison tables sort on the objective field you choose (annual rate, fee, after-tax net cost). Advertising spend, sponsorship and commission size never change a ranking; criteria and weightings are published on the Algorithm transparency page.
- While unlicensed we do not name, rank or rate any intermediary or insurer: the benchmark page publishes methodology only.
- We do not accept "top-placement" fees, and we do not sell your inputs. Calculations happen in your browser; data leaves your device only when you explicitly authorise an advisor follow-up.
FAQ
- Is FinWise free?Yes. The calculators and comparison tables are free, and no commission or ad spend changes a ranking.
- Do I need an account or a phone number?No. Calculations run in your browser; data reaches a licensed advisor only if you explicitly ask for a follow-up.
- Why does my bank quote a different number?The final approved rate, rebate or premium is whatever the bank or insurer puts in writing. FinWise shows a calculation over published data plus assumptions, labelled with the data date and source.
- How often is data updated?Market data (FX board rates, time-deposit rates) is fetched each trading day; statutory figures (tax brackets, protection limits, product terms) follow official publications and are labelled with an update date.
- How do I report an error?Email dpo@finwise.hk with the page URL, what you saw and the official source — see the corrections policy. We verify, correct and label the correction date.
